WHEN WAS SGRF ESTABLISHED?

SGRF was established in 1980 by a Royal Decree 1/1980

WHY WAS SGRF ESTABLISHED?

It was established to maximize the state reserves by committing funds into long term investments vehicles, and thus, strengthening the government`s financial position in securing future generation's welfare.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF SOVEREIGN FUND?

Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWF), are investment tools. They are pools of money derived from a country's reserves, which are set aside for investment purposes that will benefit the country's economy, citizens, and secure the economic stability of the future generations.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY FOR THE FUND COME FROM?

The funding for SGRF comes from the surplus revenues generated from the exports of Oil and Gas.

WHERE DOES THE FUND INVEST?

SGRF has a balanced investment basket in various sectors. These investments are spread across around 25 countries from East to West.

WHO BENEFITS FROM SGRF'S RETURNS?

The fund was established to benefit the Sultanate of Oman and its people and provides liquidity to the government whenever is required.

IS SGRF A GOVERNMENT FUND?

Yes.

IS IT THE ONLY GOVERNMENT FUND IN OMAN?

No. the government is also has other funds such as Oman Investment Fund and Oman oil Conpany.

WHO DECIDES WHERE SHOULD SGRF INVEST?

SGRF is regulated by The Financial Affairs & Energy Council (FAERC) which is main supervisory body of the fund and the policy maker. According to the governance structure, the board of directors is responsible for the implementations of the FAREC policies. Investments activities and day to day operations are the responsibilities of the SGRF management.

ARE ALL ITS INVESTMENTS ABROAD?

SGRF invests mainly outside Oman but plays vital role in local investments either directly or through its subsidies and associate companies .Also, SGRF acts as catalyst to attract its international partners to invest in Oman. In addition, the government has other funds mandated for investing inside Oman such as Oman Investment Fund, Oman Oil Company, Ministry of Finance Investment directorate, and the other pension funds.
